GROWING INWARD, REACHING OUTWARD

Thoughts from Pastor Counterman for the month of August 2011:

Busyness does not mean service and blessing does not equate with spirituality, does it?   As we come closer to the end of the summer months, we often think — “where has the summer gone?”  As believers, we must take the time we have to serve the Lord, not just be active.  In addition, the blessings God graciously gives to us should keep us humble, grateful, and thinking about how we can use such blessings and provisions for His glory.  Growing Inward, Reaching Outward is more than just our theme for the year, it is a way of life.  Is your life reflecting a true desire to grow spiritually and serve, or are you just “cruising” through the year just being busy?

Thought from Pastor Counterman for the month of April 2011:

There are many self-help products and promoters in this world that would tell us that each person must focus on themselves. Their idea of “growing inward” means to think more highly of one’s self, focusing on individual selfish desires, and building self-esteem.  That type of thinking is sinful and is not truly the way to achieve one’s purpose for life.  God states that it is only through Christ that a person can find the way to joy and happiness, the truth for living and daily satisfaction, and a life that’s eternal and full of purpose.  Growing inward begins by focusing on the only outward source able to change one’s internal sinful selfish nature -  that is Christ alone.   Will you give up yourself to gain Christ?

John 14:6  ”Jesus saith unto him, ‘I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me.’”

Thought from Pastor for the month of March:

We are familiar with the well-known phrase “Knowledge is power”.  In our spiritual lives that is true especially when we think of the knowledge of God.  As believers we need to develop and cultivate our knowledge of the One who is our Father, Savior, Lord, and King.  He has revealed insight and truth about Himself, about His desires for our lives, about how He works, His promises, truths, attributes, interactions with mankind, and so much more.  The more we “Know” Him the more we will know how to correctly worship, love, and serve Him.  This month as you strive to “Grow Inward”, do so by learning and enhancing your knowledge of God.  The more you know of Him – the more you will be able to share with others about Him.

Phil. 3:10 – “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection…”
